GJEPC Kolkata RO Empowers Customs Officials with Gold Appraiser & Valuer Training

GJEPC’s Kolkata Regional Office recently concluded a successful 4-day “Gold Appraiser & Valuer Training Program” at the Kolkata Customs Air-cargo Commissionerate.

The program, held from 4th to 7th November 2024, was designed to equip Customs officers with the necessary skills to accurately appraise and value gems, precious stones, gold, and jewellery.

Mr. Pankaj Parekh, Eastern Regional Chairman of GJEPC, expressed the importance of such training programs in empowering customs officials to facilitate smooth export operations. He expressed confidence that the acquired skills would contribute to ease of doing business for the gem and jewelry industry.

Mr. Koushik S.V., Head of IIGJ Udupi, led the training sessions, covering critical areas such as gemstone and diamond identification, precious metal purity analysis using XRF machines, and various assaying techniques.

The program concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, presided over by Mr. Shivaji Dange, IRS, Principal Commissioner of Customs (Airport & ACC), along with Joint Commissioner Mr. S. Mondal and other senior Custom officials. Mr. Dange acknowledged GJEPC’s efforts in organising the training and encouraged future collaborations to streamline export procedures at the Cargo shed.
