The Natural Diamond Council (NDC) has released a new report, “Diamonds of Canada,” highlighting the origins and positive impact of Canadian natural diamonds. This report examines the history, mining practices, and social and environmental contributions of the Canadian diamond industry.
The report notes that Canada, particularly its Northwest Territories, is a major player in the global diamond market, producing 14% of the world’s diamonds. Canadian diamond mines provide significant economic benefits to local communities, generating 52% of the Northwest Territories government’s revenue.
The industry is committed to sustainable mining practices, including water recycling, responsible waste management, and habitat restoration. Diamond mining companies work closely with local and Indigenous communities to ensure positive social and economic development.
The report also features the journey of NDC’s brand ambassador and British actress Lily James through Canada’s diamond regions, showcasing the industry’s commitment to ethical sourcing and environmental preservation.
Richa Singh, Managing Director, NDC India and Middle East, said, “The Diamonds of Canada report brings to life the journey of natural diamonds, showcasing the powerful story of responsibility, rarity, and resilience that defines our industry. By highlighting little-known aspects of Canadian diamonds, this report underscores the modern diamond industry’s dedication to sustainable practices and how it is working towards positive community impact. As we continue to deepen our understanding of this journey from mine to masterpiece, we look forward to exploring and sharing similar reports from other regions, reinforcing our commitment to a responsible and transparent industry for consumers and professionals alike.”
The Diamonds of Canada report is part of a broader initiative by NDC to shine a light on the positive impact of natural diamond mining worldwide. Future reports, such as “Diamonds of Botswana,” “Diamond Trends,” and “Diamond Facts,” will provide further insights into the global diamond industry’s commitment to sustainability and ethical practices.
