Okavango Diamond Company Joins Tracr to Boost Diamond Traceability

Okavango Diamond Company (ODC), a Botswana-based rough diamond marketing company, and Debswana Diamond Company, one of the world’s leading diamond producers, announced the onboarding of ODC’s rough diamond supply onto Tracr, a blockchain-based platform.

This marks a significant milestone in providing information on provenance for ODC’s rough diamond supply. ODC, wholly owned by the Government of Botswana, plays a key role in offering independently marketed rough diamonds from the country’s production to the global market.

Owned by the Government of Botswana, ODC has begun registering rough diamonds sized 3–6 gr and 2–10 carats on Tracr since early 2025. This development greatly increases the global availability of traceable diamonds and provides buyers with immutable digital records of each diamond’s journey.

Debswana Diamond Company, a key supplier to ODC and joint venture between the Government of Botswana and De Beers Group, has played a pivotal role in supporting this transition by supplying vital production data for seamless onboarding.

Mmetla Masire, Managing Director of ODC, said, “By joining the Tracr platform, we are strengthening our commitment to transparency and ensuring that Botswana’s diamonds are recognised for the ethical legacy they represent.”

Debswana’s MD Andrew Maatla Motsomi added, “We are proud to support ODC in this important initiative. Tracr provides a critical tool for reinforcing trust in natural diamonds.”

Tracr CEO Wes Tucker welcomed ODC to the platform, calling it an exciting step in expanding traceability and provenance assurance across the diamond industry.
