Sumit Sawhney, Founder and Creative Director of fine jewellery brand Apala by Sumit, Delhi, was extended a special invitation to attend the 77th celebration of India’s Republic Day Parade this year in recognition of his outstanding contribution to design and Intellectual Property.

Sawhney is among the top Intellectual Design registrants in India and ranks No.1 in the jewellery industry, making him the only designer from the sector to receive this distinction.

He was chosen as one of the 40 renowned individuals from across the country, representing diverse fields such as science, innovation, start-ups, pharmaceuticals and enterprise; his recognition underlines the growing importance of design-led thinking and IP protection in India’s creative economy.

“To be recognised by the Government of India on the occasion of Republic Day is an honour of a lifetime. I’m humbled to be acknowledged for my journey in design and Intellectual Property. This moment is not just about me—it celebrates years of perseverance, experimentation and a firm belief in the power of original design and protected creativity,” Sawhney commented.
