Shri Siddharth Mahajan, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, visited Jaipur on 9th October to gain firsthand insights into the operations of the local gems and jewellery industry. GJEPC’s Jaipur Regional Office in association with National Gems & Jewellery Council Of India (NGJCI) organised an Open House session for its members with Shri Siddharth Mahajan at JECC Sitapura, Jaipur.
The session was attended by 45 trade members and included dignitaries such as Shri Nirmal Bardiya, Regional Chairman, GJEPC and Shri Pramod Agarwal, Chairman, NGJCI. Also present on the occasion were Shri Budhiprakash, Jt. Commissioner, SEZ Customs, Shri Pankaj Sharma, ADC, JSEZ and other Customs officials. The event saw active participation from Jewellers Association Jaipur and the Sitapura Gems and Jewellery Industry Association (SGJIA).
Shri Mahajan assured an early resolution of issues such as duty drawback on platinum, availability of precious metal, restarting hand carry from Jaipur airport, pulling out of reimports from faceless, import of findings, gem replenishment licence on studded gold & silver, technology upgradation and more.
Shri Mahajan also toured several LGD and coloured gemstone manufacturing units in the Jaipur Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The Joint Secretary visited the Jaipur Gem & Jewellery Bourse site, IIGJ Jaipur, and IIGJ-RLC where he interacted with students.
