Gem Diamonds announced the recovery of an extraordinary 172.06-carat Type II white diamond at the Letseng mine in Lesotho. The discovery, made on 2nd June, 2024, marks a significant addition to the company’s portfolio of remarkable finds.
This impressive diamond is the seventh stone over 100 carats to be recovered at the Letseng mine this year, highlighting the mine’s status as a leading source of large, high-quality diamonds.
In addition to the newly discovered 172.06-carat diamond, Gem Diamonds has recovered six other diamonds over 100 carats in 2024. These include a 212.49ct type II white diamond recovered on 28 May, a 118.74ct type II white diamond found on 28 April, 169.15ct type II white diamond on 18 April, a 113ct white type II diamond recovered on 17 February, a low quality 139ct Boart diamond recovered on 17 February, and a high quality 295ct white Type II diamond, recovered at Letseng on 8 January.
