Toshiba Gautam, co-owner of Zundaa, shares the key factors that have distinguished Zundaa in terms of innovation and exclusive design.
Tell us more about your company. Are you a first-gen jeweller?
With deep roots in the diamond business, we established ourselves as jewellery manufacturers in the early part of the 21st century. We set up our own independent manufacturing facility, equipped with the latest technology, including computer-aided design, modern machines and even the latest 3D printing technology.
What is the design philosophy of your company and what do you specialise in?
Briefly – it is about ‘Reinventing Traditions.’ We like to design as per current trends in markets, making them trendy but timeless. We have a special affinity towards diamonds in various shapes, and we think beyond the traditionally used round shapes. Customisation is our forte, and we have the ability to adapt our concepts to our clients’ needs.
Are you a regular participant of IIJS? If so, since how long have you been exhibiting at the show? Has IIJS helped you in growing your business?
Yes, we participate in both IIJS Premiere and Signature, having been part of the show since our inception. IIJS is a good platform to network, and we prepare a new line for every show. It is easier to display the entire line of products to new and existing clients. The experience is variable as some years are better than others. We are hopeful for a promising 2024.
Tell us more about what you are going to display at IIJS Signature. Can you share the inspiration behind the collections? You are entering the men’s jewellery segment. What was the motivation for it? Do you think the men’s segment has a promising future?
Welcoming the next generation into a business often injects fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, especially when it comes to design inputs. They often have an intuitive understanding of modern aesthetics and trends, so involving them in the design process brought a fresh perspective to the world of men’s jewellery.
Zundaa is renowned for its meticulous craftsmanship. How does the company ensure the highest quality in both materials and workmanship, and what steps are taken to maintain ethical standards in the production process?
Regardless of the design’s complexity or simplicity, attention to detail and precision in crafting the pieces are essential for creating high-quality products. Using high-quality materials is essential for durability and overall aesthetic appeal. Prototyping and testing the designs can help identify any flaws or areas for improvement. This ensures that the final product meets the desired standards.
Every detail, from the finishing touches to the symmetry of the design, contributes to the overall appeal of the jewellery. Checking and rechecking for perfection is
key. Implementing strict quality control measures at various stages of production helps catch any issues and ensures that only flawless pieces reach the market.
