The Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IIGJ) Mumbai marked two decades of excellence in gems and jewellery education at a grand celebration held at the Innov8 Launch Pad during IIJS Signature 2024.
The event was attended by industry luminaries, distinguished guests, to mark this significant milestone.
Guest of Honour Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC, was joined by Kirit Bhansali, Vice Chairman, GJEPC, Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director, GJEPC, Milan Chokshi, Chairman of IIGJ Mumbai, and Raj Parikh, Director of IIGJ Mumbai.
The ceremony commenced with a graceful dance performance by students pursuing the Post-Graduate Diploma in Jewellery Management at IIGJ Mumbai. The highlight of the event was a captivating fashion show, featuring exquisite jewellery pieces designed by graduating students.
During the event, IIGJ Mumbai announced long-term collaborations with prominent institutions, including Tolani College of Commerce, DCB Bank, and DeBeers Forevermark. These partnerships aim to enhance educational opportunities and foster growth within the gem and jewellery industry.
Faculty and staff who have served the Institution for 10 and 20 years were felicitated and awarded, as were IIGJ Champs, student toppers who are now involved with the gems and jewellery industry, full-time.
A moment of remembrance and tribute was dedicated to the founder chairman, Tanvir Chokshi, with a memento presented to his son, Milan Chokshi, the current IIGJ Mumbai Chairman.
In his address, Vipul Shah said, “Institutes play a key role in building the industry, developing a nation, and growing an economy. IIGJ is one of the key pillars of growth of this industry, and in the last two decades it has done exemplary work by nurturing talent that is today the backbone of this sector.”
Kirit Bhansali, who was also the past Chairman of IIGJ Mumbai, remarked, “I encourage and urge the students of IIGJ Mumbai to apply their skills acquired at the institute, and make a difference in the industry. Do not compromise with the honesty and integrity as these two values will serve as indispensable pillars in overcoming any challenges that may arise in your careers.”
Highlighting the inherent potential of the industry, Milan Chokshi emphasised that right and collaborative efforts will usher in a new wave of jewellery professionals, propelling the industry to unprecedented heights.
The event was expertly conducted by Mr. Debasish Biswas, CEO and officiating Head of the Institute for IIGJ Mumbai, who ensured that the celebration was a fitting tribute to the institute’s journey and accomplishments.
As IIGJ Mumbai looks back on 20 years of excellence, the institute remains steadfast in its commitment to shaping the future of the gems and jewellery industry through education, innovation, and collaboration.
