GJEPC Welcomes Customs Notice for Jewellery Repair Imports

GJEPC extended its gratitude to the Customs Department for issuing a Public Notice that streamlines the import process for jewellery repair and return. The notice dated 12th March 2025, issued by the Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre (PCCCC), aligns with Notification 158/95 dated 14th November 1995 and specifies additional documentation requirements to ensure faster clearance of re-imported jewellery originally manufactured in India. This includes self-certified reports, product images, detailed packing lists, and photographs.

Kirit Bhansali, Chairman, GJEPC, said, “GJEPC expresses its heartfelt thanks to the Customs Department for issuing this much-needed public notice regarding jewellery repairing. This initiative of Mumbai Customs will go a long way towards establishing India as a jewellery repairing hub and create employment opportunities for the artisans of the country. The Council’s persistent efforts have ensured greater transparency and efficiency in the process, benefiting exporters and manufacturers. It also reflects GJEPC’s commitment to supporting the industry and facilitating smoother trade operations.”
