Diarossa’s Director reflects on the event’s strengths, areas for improvement, and India’s global jewellery appeal.
Representing the United Kingdom at IIJS 2025, London-based jeweller Diarossa continues to engage with India’s thriving jewellery industry. Known for its design sensibilities and diamond expertise, the brand sees the event as a valuable platform for networking, sourcing, and trendspotting. Director Shankar Ramanathan spoke about the evolution of IIJS over the years, the growing diversity of products, and how small logistical changes could make a big difference for international participants.
What brings you to IIJS 2025?
IIJS 2025 offers a huge variety of designs and innovations. You see a range of styles and craftsmanship under one roof, which is a great advantage for buyers and industry professionals like me.
How many delegates has the UK brought this year?
Most of the delegates from the UK this year are either jewellery professionals like myself or those interested in sourcing diamonds and diamond jewellery.
You’ve been attending IIJS for many years — what improvements have you noticed?
There’s been a lot of progress in terms of the quality and variety of products on display. The designs keep getting better, and the creativity is remarkable.
And what areas still need improvement?
There are a few practical challenges for overseas visitors. Traffic congestion makes commuting difficult, and the entry and exit process could be more efficient. Sanitation is another area where there’s room for improvement. These are basic but important aspects, especially for delegates travelling from abroad.
Any thoughts on the multi-venue format between Bombay Exhibition Centre and Jio World Convention Centre?
I’ve seen the show evolve from being held only at BEC to now including Jio World, which is a fantastic venue. But splitting the event between two locations means we have to allocate separate days for each, and travel between them can be time-consuming. If everything could be held under one roof, it would make participation much more efficient.
What are your final impressions of IIJS 2025?
India has always delivered the best in terms of products, service, and hospitality. The show is a testament to the country’s leadership in the global jewellery market, and I’m glad to be part of it.
