Artistic Spectacle

Estaa Jewelry’s newest collection combines the ethereal allure of celestial bodies with the mystique of Vedic astrology. Meanwhile, Gübelin collaborates with an artist to craft a painting inspired by the inner beauty of high-carat blue spinel set in a spectacular ring.

Celestial Wonders

Estaa Jewelry, Mumbai, unveils a stunning collection of fine jewellery inspired by celestial beauties. The line is crafted using the parameters of ancient Vedic astrology. They say, we are all star dust, born with the five elements of present in the Universe – agni (fire), vayu (wind), dharti (earth), jal (water) and aakash (space).

The Vedanga Jyotisha, an ancient Vedic text on astronomy and astrology, is the study of light and nine heavenly bodies that operate on humans through the principal of bandhu, which in Sanskrit means ‘connections that link the outer and inner: As above, so below.’

The Akasa Pearl Moon Burst earrings, underscore the enigmatic energy of the moon through the use of lustrous South Sea pearls and diamonds. In Vedic astrology, it is believed that the moon governs emotions and intuition. Wearing pearls with the right intention ignites compassion and honours the rhythm of existence. The pearl earrings empower you to trust your instincts, honour your emotions, and embrace the transformative power of the lunar realm and radiate your inner light.

In Vedic astrology, coral is intimately linked with the fiery planet Mars which symbolises passion, determination, and the pursuit of goals. Crafted in 18-karat yellow fire gold, these earrings designed with coral and natural diamonds, are a reminder to embrace your unique journey, explore uncharted territories, and radiate the strength that lies within your being.

Turquoise, the stone of the sky, holds a treasured place in the hearts of diverse cultures throughout history. Believed to bring luck, peace, and protection, it evokes the essence of tranquillity. In Vedic astrology, turquoise is associated with the benevolent planet Jupiter, the cosmic guardian of wisdom and abundance. Allow this sky stone to guide you towards serenity by donning these earrings crafted in 18-karat white gold and set with turquoise and natural diamonds.

The Sun earrings, adorned with the brilliance of fiery red rubies, encapsulate the essence of Surya, the sun god’s radiance. The vibrant red hues of these gemstones mirror its energy, empowering you to embrace your inner fire to help you realise your true power. The earrings are articulated with 18-karat gold and set with rubies and natural diamonds.

Gueblin’s Art Collaboration

Gübelin Jewellery Ornament of Flowers Cocktail Ring focused on the high-carat blue spinel.

As part of artgenève, the House of Gübelin proudly unveils its latest art collaboration. The joint effort involves the talented team from the jewellery atelier and artist Claudia Limacher, co-founder of the Impulse Gallery in Lucerne, where she has cultivated a platform for contemporary artists.

Claudia, who also a business consultancy graduate, has dedicated the past decade to her artistic pursuits. Her creations grace private collections across Europe, Asia, and the USA, reflecting her profound commitment to the art world.

Both Gübelin and Claudia found inspiration in the fascinating inner world of high-carat spinel to create their works. The one-of-a-kind, opulent cocktail ring from the Ornament of Flowers line centres on a spectacular 12.13-carat spinel, one which changes its colour depending on the light source. In sunlight, it radiates blue and under artificial light in purplish-violet. The radiant blue of the spinel is caused by a mixture of the colour-determining elements of cobalt and iron, with cobalt being the dominant element. The fine and precise cut brings the spinel’s qualities to full bloom.

The Ornament of Flowers cocktail ring

Raphael Gübelin, President of the House of Gübelin, explains: “Our family-owned firm stands for coloured gems. We love the wide range of colours and gemstones of select quality. Spinels have significantly grown in interest. For this cocktail ring we found an extremely rare spinel that changes colours, much to the delight of both jewellery and gemstone connoisseurs.”

The Ornament of Flowers cocktail ring is characterised by the organic shapes and the variety of cuts. They lend the design lively light refractions and an exciting dynamic. The individual white gold threads join together to form the ring band. The bold curvature of the ring is highlighted by the sophisticated mix of cuts crafted especially for the diamond baguettes and brilliant-cut diamonds. Additionally, pear and marquise-shape diamonds form a stylised bouquet of flowers. The impressive spinel seems to float above the sculpturally composed ring.

Designers placed the iconic Gübelin ruby directly alongside the spinel. This sparkling red gemstone forms the pistil of the blossom, while also lending the cocktail ring a further colourful highlight. The cabochon-cut ruby hails from Greenland, recognised as one of the most responsibly sourced origins for gemstones of its kind.

Gübelin Jewellery Art Collaboration 2024 showcasing the Blooming Universe painting.

Inspired by the photomicrography, Claudia Limacher created her 2.5 by 4-metre painting, Blooming Universe, using acrylics, oil paints, India ink and free pigments in iridescent colours. The high-resolution photo of the gemstone reminded the artist of a universe of floral shapes and structures which she interprets abstractly. Claudia expounds: “During my time in the USA, I was already familiar with spectacular photos which reveal the inner beauty of gemstones and lend them a deeper meaning. During the collaboration with Gübelin, I was able to discover the fascinating inner world of gemstones and transform them into my own art.”
