De Beers Hikes Rough Diamond Prices By 8% At First Sight Of 2022: Bloomberg

Aggressive midstream buying amid the continuing supply shortage of rough diamonds has prompted De Beers to raise prices by 8% at its first sight of 2022 in Botswana, reports Bloomberg, citing unidentified sources.

This latest price hike follows the continuing trend of miners raising rough prices throughout 2021, the article notes. Larger stones were valued some 5% higher, while smaller stones traded up as much as 20%, at this week’s sale, it adds.

Small goods, categorised as 0.13-to-0.42-carat, are up an estimated 78% since mid-2020, reported diamond analyst Paul Zimnisky, in his exclusive feature for Solitaire International.
