Diamonds Do Good (DDG) and the Signet Love Inspires Foundation have highlighted youth development through Finding the Leader Within, a two-year partnership between DDG and Botswana-based Stepping Stones International (SSI), funded by the Signet foundation.
The partnership culminated in a screening of three short films, Three Stories. Lives Changed., on 8 October at Maitisong Theatre in Gaborone. Created by young Batswana, the films use storytelling to address issues affecting young people and amplify their voices.
The programme included a creative masterclass led by Denim Richards, founder of Opulent Entertainment, with Shuga Global supporting research and storytelling. The premiere was attended by Marcus ter Haar, incoming DDG Chair, and featured a keynote address by Botswana’s Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo.
Ter Haar said DDG’s new initiative aims to identify impactful programmes in natural diamond-producing countries and connect them with industry organisations and philanthropic foundations to support education, entrepreneurship, youth development and workforce opportunities.
