GJSCI Inaugurates Skill Training Centre For Rural & Tribal Youth In Dharampur, Gujarat

Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI) in collaboration with Shrimad Rajchandra Skill Development Centre (SRSDC) inaugurated a Skill Training Centre for Rural and Tribal Youth of Dharampur, a town in the Valsad district of Gujarat.

Under the expertise of professional instructors, this three-month course will train the rural students to design jewellery using computer-aided design (CAD) software. A dedicated and well-equipped computer lab has been set up by GJSCI to provide a hands-on training experience.

The computer lab was inaugurated on September 13th, in the presence of Abhay Jasani, President, Shrimad Rajachandra Mission; Sanjay Kothari, Chairman, GJSCI; Vasant Mehta, Chairman Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ), Mumbai; Shishir Nevatia, Director, GJSCI; and Rajeev Garg, CEO, GJSCI among others.  Cascade Star, a Mumbai-based jewellery manufacturing equipment supplier, has agreed to donate the imported CAD software, Matrix Gold, for training purposes. SRSDC has been playing a pivotal role in empowering, training, and providing economic freedom to rural youth since several years. This dedicated Centre in the remote belt of southern Gujarat has improved the employability of hundreds of rural youth by offering them short-term, market-linked vocational training at no cost, GJSCI noted.

The Centre will also teach soft skills to assist the candidates with job placements. According to GJSCI, this initiative will effectively combat the challenges faced by the rural boys and girls, who often have no option but to migrate in search of menial jobs, or be deprived of employment due to the lack of skills. Moreover, this course will also benefit the industry with fresh talent from local regions. This initiative would further foster a culture of learning for rural youth, eventually leading to entrepreneurial careers, GJSCI said.
