Historic 108.39ct Pink Diamond Sparks Collaboration Between SMD and Choron BV

Diamond producer Storm Mountain Diamonds (Pty) Ltd (SMD) has announced a groundbreaking agreement with diamond player Choron BV for the exquisite 108.39-carat pink diamond unearthed at the KAO mine in March 2023.

SMD, known for its outstanding pink diamond recoveries at the famed KAO mine in the Kingdom of Lesotho, has marked a historic milestone with the discovery of the 108.39-carat diamond, among the largest globally and distinguished as a Type 2A diamond due to its rarity.

Choron BV, established in 1985, is a prominent diamond entity with a specialised division dedicated to crafting exceptional rough diamonds. As custodians of many noteworthy diamonds uncovered in recent years, Choron is honoured to undertake the responsibility of revealing the inherent beauty of this gift from Mother Nature.

Robert Cowley, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SMD, expressed, “SMD consistently delivers extraordinary diamonds, solidifying the KAO mine as the primary global producer of pink diamonds. We’re excited about this agreement with Choron and anticipate the next chapter in this diamond’s story.”

Anshul Gandhi, Chief Executive Officer of Choron, stated, “It is a privilege for Choron to unlock the secrets within this remarkable pink diamond. Our artisans will meticulously transform this rough diamond into a collection of polished diamonds that will be remembered for generations.”

Both SMD and Choron are members of the Responsible Jewellery Council.
