The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), under the guidance of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, organised a highly productive interactive session for the diamond industry. The event took place on 13th July, 2023, in Surat and welcomed esteemed guests, including Shri Piyush Goyal, the Hon’ble Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Smt. Darshanaben Jardosh, the Hon’ble Union Minister of States for Textile and Railways.
The session, organised by the GJEPC Regional Office in Surat, brought together prominent figures and leaders from the diamond industry, encompassing both natural and lab-grown diamonds, as well as manufacturers of diamond-studded jewellery.
The session proved to be a platform for meaningful dialogue and exchange of insights. The Hon’ble ministers listened attentively to the concerns and suggestions raised by the representatives of the diamond industry. The discussions encompassed various significant topics, including the equalisation levy, the MOOWR scheme, Surat Special Economic Zone (SEZ) matters, and Customs-related issues.
Assuring the industry of their commitment, the Hon’ble ministers pledged to take swift action to address the concerns expressed during the session. Furthermore, they emphasized the importance of introspection within the industry, encouraging the adoption of ethical practices to ensure the continued growth and prosperity of the diamond sector.
