Rio Tinto’s Diavik mine in Northwest Territories, Canada reported a 21% increase in diamond production to 4.65 million carats for the full year 2022. The miner’s Q4 diamond output was 14% higher year-on-year to 1.31 million carats, and grew 11% versus the preceding Q3 2022.
“At Diavik, our share of carats was 14% higher than the fourth quarter of 2021 due to the benefit of our increased share of production since taking 100% ownership of Diavik from November 2021, partly offset by lower carats recovered due to lower throughput,” it noted.
