Under the Thaimaaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam (Maternal Uncle Gold Ring Scheme), launched by the Tamil Nadu Government under the leadership of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, the scheme provides a one-gram gold ring to babies born in government healthcare institutions across the state on or after June 22, which coincides with the Chief Minister’s birthday. Each ring comes with a blister card and baby-care kit. The front side of the blister card carries the Tamil Nadu Government logo, a portrait of the Chief Minister, and the name of the scheme.
As part of the initiative, 38,550 gold rings have been supplied by Kalyan Jewellers India Limited. The rings were manufactured, hallmarked and delivered to designated locations as specified by the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC). The rings were formally handed over on 29 September 2026 at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), Madurai, as part of the statewide launch, with Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay presenting the rings to children.
Commenting on the initiative, T.S.
