Representatives from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) met at the GJEPC head office in Mumbai on 12th December to discuss ways to boost bilateral trade.

The meeting saw participation from key figures including Ms. Vian Cheung, Director, Thailand and South Asia, HKTDC; Mr. Rajesh Bhagat, Consultant South Asia, HKTDC; and Mr. Zahir Merchant, Sr. Project Manager, HKTDC. Representing GJEPC were Ms. Dolly Choudhary, Director, PMBD, and Mr. Ruzbeh Mistry, Senior Chief Manager, Exhibitions Dept.

Discussions centred on the current import and export landscape between India and Hong Kong, with a focus on strengthening bilateral trade relations. HKTDC provided an overview of their extensive calendar, showcasing 36 trade shows held annually in Hong Kong. HKTDC will offer increased support to GJEPC for their participation in the HKTDC March Fair, including business matching services and a dedicated seminar slot. HKTDC pledged support for forming delegations and establishing a Hong Kong Pavilion at future editions of IIJS.

HKTDC will promote the Indian Jewellery Park, Mumbai (IJPM) to encourage Hong Kong companies to establish manufacturing units in India. Leveraging its 50 offices worldwide, HKTDC offered its support to GJEPC for any trade activities in those regions. HKTDC expressed interest in a study tour to India focusing on the gem and jewellery sector.

GJEPC suggested aligning the tour with IIJS for optimal engagement. The tour will have a well-defined objective. The two organisations discussed the possibility of a B2B matching event in Hong Kong in November 2025, with HKTDC providing support.

The meeting laid the groundwork for future cooperation between GJEPC and HKTDC within the gem and jewellery sector.
