Alrosa was ranked No. 6 in the first rating of environmental responsibility of Russian companies prepared by Forbes magazine. Alrosa ranks first among mining and metallurgical companies.
Volumes of emissions of harmful substances, dynamics of water and electricity consumption, investments in environmental protection and basic principles of environmental policy were taken into account in the rating. “Our goal was to identify the companies with the most responsible attitude to the environment,” the authors of the rating explained.
As Forbes notes, in 2019 Alrosa spent RUB 7.7 billion, or about 3.2% of its revenue, on the environment, which is one of the highest rates among Russian mining companies.
The rating includes 30 most environmentally friendly Russian companies, with two thirds of them from the industrial sector. The rating also includes three retailers, one financial institution and one IT company.
