Alrosa: Strong Demand For 10.8ct+ Diamonds Fetches $32 Million In May-June

Alrosa’s large diamond auctions held in Antwerp, Dubai and Ramat Gan between May and June 2021 sold more than 400 lots weighing almost 6,600 carats for a total of $32.4 million ($4,909/carat). These auctions allowed clients to purchase goods they needed despite international travel restrictions, the miner said.

In Antwerp Alrosa sold 142 lots for $10.4 million to 25 companies from Belgium, Canada, India, Israel and UAE. In Dubai, 141 diamonds were sold for $10.7 million to 23 buyers from Belgium, India, Israel and UAE. In Ramat Gan, 123 diamonds were sold for $11.3 million to 38 companies from India and Israel.

Evgeny Agureev, Deputy CEO, Alrosa, said: “Alrosa flexibly responds to its clients’ needs, to supply their confirmed demand for rough, including valuable special size diamonds that are sought after these days. As experts are not able (to travel) around the world, we are in regular dialogue with our clients, to adapt (the) locations and schedule of our competitive sales to their needs as much as possible. All these auctions were efficient, with buyers confirming their interest in the majority of lots.” Under Russian law, Alrosa sells special size (i.e. 10.8 carats and larger) diamonds at international auctions only. Viewings take place either in Moscow at United Selling Organization, or at the company’s trading offices abroad.
