Dr. Usha Balakrishnan to Spotlight Golconda’s Diamond Legacy at World Diamond Congress

Renowned jewellery historian and author Dr. Usha Balakrishnan will present a special lecture, “Golconda and Ancient Diamonds – A Historical Perspective,” at the 41st World Diamond Congress on 15 July 2026.

The session will explore India’s role as the world’s sole source of diamonds for nearly 2,000 years and examine the enduring legacy of Golconda, famed for producing some of history’s most exceptional diamonds.

Moderated by luxury journalist and author Richa Goyal Sikri, the presentation will draw on ancient texts, travel accounts and celebrated gemstones to separate legend from historical record. It will also revisit enduring questions surrounding famous stones such as the Orlov Diamond and the significance of the Golconda name.

The World Diamond Congress, organised by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA), will be held from 12-15 July at the Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay alongside the Singapore International Jewelry Expo. The event brings together global diamond and jewellery industry leaders to discuss key developments shaping the trade.
