GJEPC Jaipur RO Organises Gem Identification Orientation Programme For Customs Officers

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ) Jaipur jointly organised a Gemstone Identification Orientation Programme for Customs officers in the pink city. Starting 5th April, 2021, the five-day (two hours per day) Orientation Programme will cover topics such as Identification of Gems, their Rough, Simulants, Synthetics, etc. Around 11 officers, including inspectors and appraisers, are attending this programme.

Sanjay Singh, Director of GJEPC’s Jaipur Regional Office, said, “GJEPC  is committed to the smooth functioning of the export/import trade. Customs officers at airports face challenges in appraising gemstones, diamond, jewellery, etc. when the goods are examined at the time of export/import. To impart knowledge about the identification of these items to Customs officers, GJEPC organised this five-day orientation programme to familiarise them with the various gemstones.

“Sharing knowledge with trade facilitators like Customs officers will further ease the process of importing/exporting goods. GJEPC has been conducting similar orientation programmes at various ports including Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata.”
