IIGJ & IIT Madras Launch Certificate in Lab-Grown Diamond Technology

The Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ), supported by the GJEPC, has launched a global programme, the Certificate in Lab-Grown Diamond Technology, in collaboration with the IIT Madras India Centre for Lab-Grown Diamond (InCent LGD).

The 90-hour hybrid programme is designed to cover the technical, commercial and regulatory aspects of the lab-grown diamond (LGD) industry. The programme is structured around evening and weekend sessions.

IIGJ will deliver 30 hours of live online instruction covering the global diamond industry, the emergence of LGDs and the industry ecosystem, market and consumer fundamentals, technology and commerce, entrepreneurship, trade and exports, regulatory frameworks, and future technologies and strategic outlook.

The IIT Madras component comprises 48 hours of live online learning and 12 hours of campus immersion. The curriculum includes graphite and diamond structures, High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) technology, Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition (MPCVD), diamond growth through MPCVD, post-processing of LGDs and advanced characterisation.

The programme is intended to provide participants with exposure to both the scientific and technological foundations of LGD production and the wider business ecosystem surrounding the sector.
