Launch Alert: Gübelin Jewellery Redefines Opulence

Gübelin Jewellery presents yet again iconic pieces in two of its recent unveilings. Coral Blossom, a modular masterpiece is designed to be worn as a ring, brooch or pendant. The other collection highlights the Crimson Red ruby, set in jewels that embody pure and sophisticated forms, creating a striking and brilliant statement.

The Versatile Coral Blossom

Modular jewellery that offers multiple ways of wearing has been known for centuries. With the unveiling of Coral Blossom, Gübelin Jewellery perpetuates the history in an innovative way. The stunning piece of jewellery can be worn as a brooch, necklace or cocktail ring.

Brooches are seeing a revival and fashionistas wear them not only on the left lapel, but pin in on the collar of an overcoat, or as a glistening accent on an evening dress, sweater or hat. Designed to be worn as a statement brooch, Coral Blossom can work as a pendant on a red gold chain or as an opulent ring.

It took 350 hours to create this versatile piece, crafted as a homage to the colourful and varied Mergui Archipelago off the coast of Burma. Thanks to the sophisticated bayonet clasp, wearers can convert Coral Blossom from one type of jewellery into another in an instant. The piece features a cushion-shaped 5.01-carat Burmese sapphire at the centre, surrounded by a sweeping arrangement of sapphires, tsavorites and rubies in a sophisticated mix of cuts. A double pavé thread of brilliant-cut diamonds adorns the ring band.

Crimson Red

Gübelin Jewellery unveils yet another line focusing on the most sought-after and valuable Crimson Red rubies. The timeless design of the solitaire ring and ear studs is focused on the ruby. Their purist shapes allow these jewellery pieces appeal to connoisseurs who want to add new facets to their collection.

The ruby is considered the king of gemstones, and the largest and most important deposits are found in Asia and Africa. The Gübelin Gem Lab uses the trade names Pigeon Blood Red and most recently Crimson Red to designate only the finest rubies. This name is the new definition of exceptional quality in rubies: Crimson Red, the trade name that has been used by the Gübelin Gem Lab  since February 2023.

It is estimated that only 1% of rubies tested by the Gübelin Gem Lab fulfil the exacting criteria to qualify for the designation Crimson Red. Commercially, designations such as Crimson Red and Pigeon Blood Red for rubies or Royal Blue and Padparadscha for sapphires denote unique gemstones possessing specific qualities. This allows for better orientation in the sale and purchase of high-grade gemstones.  Crimson Red is employed to designate rubies that show no sign of treatment and are naturally striking with a homogeneous, saturated red. These highly transparent gemstones contain no inclusions visible to the naked eye. They exhibit a weak to moderate fluorescence when exposed to UV-light. It is only the degree of fluorescence that distinguishes Crimson Red from Pigeon Blood Red, which is highly pronounced in the latter.
