U.S. Govt. Hits Russian Diamond Exporter With Sanctions

The U.S. Treasury announced that it is sanctioning Russia’s state-owned diamond exporter, Almazyuvelirexport, for its involvement in the metals and mining sector of the Russian economy. The move is part of a new, sweeping package of sanctions that target nearly 300 individuals and entities for their roles in Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine and the death of opposition leader Aleksey Navalny.

The sanctions, which coincide with the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, are the largest number of sanctions ever imposed on Russia by the U.S. government. The Treasury and the State Department are jointly sanctioning over 500 targets to impose additional costs for Russia’s repression, human rights abuses, and aggression against Ukraine. The Commerce Department is also adding more than 90 companies to the Entity List.
