Vasant Gajera

Laxmi Diamond is one of the major manufacturers and distributors of polished diamonds to the jewellery trade globally. Mr Vasant Gajera, the driving force behind the group, laid the foundation of Laxmi Diamond back in 1972. Since then, the company has experienced rapid growth and from 1995 onwards, Laxmi Diamond has been a Sightholder of the Diamond Trading Company (DTC), the distribution arm of the De Beers Group.

The manufacturing facilities in Surat and Amreli in Gujarat are equipped with the latest high-tech machinery. The company’s continued emphasis on state-of-the-art factories, highly skilled personnel operating the latest technology and implementation of quality control systems has resulted in efficient production. Laxmi’s business operations span the world of diamonds from rough to retail.

CSR Initiatives

Smt. Shantaben Haribhai Gajera Charitable Trust was established by Shri Vasantbhai Gajera and his brothers in a pious memory of their beloved mother in 1993. Key moments of the Trust is to serve the nation, its citizen and the surrounding people in general.

There are number of areas that demands CSR activities but the Trust feels that the best way to contribute to the beloved mother was to embark upon education and to serve humanity remained on the top of their priority although they have also undertaken several notable initiatives in environment awareness.

Educational

Girls College, Amreli is a good initiative by the Trust to promote girl child education

Gajera Vidyabhavan: This was the first school opened on 14 June 1999 at Amroli, Katargam, Surat. It had about 583 students from pre-primary to class XII in English and Gujarati mediums. Soon, the school introduced GSBE Board as well as CBSE in June 2005. Through quality education and discipline, the school earned a great name, which soon saw the number of students increasing to 15,000!

Gajera Vidyabhavan English Medium School: In 2009, the Trust opened a second school, Gajera Vidyabhavan English Medium School (GVES) at Utran. The school is surrounded by beautiful lush greenery, which ensures healthy air, far from city pollution! The co-educational school is well equipped with computer, science laboratory, playground and a rich library. The school also conducts various extracurricular activities like skating, karate, dance, aerobics and yoga. From timeto- time, the school organizes elocution competitions, science exhibitions, art and craft exhibitions and various quiz.

Gajera Vidyabhavan: Situated at Laxmi Villa Township, Sachin, Surat, Gajera Vidyabhavan is their third school. Education at the school is imparted from nursery to higher secondary. As of today, there are 4,500 students in the school.

Gajera Global School: Gajera Global School is located near Shalin Enclave, and is fully airconditioned. About 3,000 students study in the school.

Vidyavihar: Located in Varshada Road, Amreli Vidyavihar has a student strength of 10,000 with classes from nursery to higher secondary in commerce and art streams. This is resident school with boarding and lodging facilities. About 5,600 girls and 1,350 boys avail of the hostel facilities.

Laxmi Vidyapeeth: Laxmi Vidyapeeth is situated at a very strategic location at Sarigam to provide quality education to the surrounding tribal society. The school provides education from primary and up to secondary level. As of today, about 5,000 students are enrolled in Vidyapeeth. It has accommodation for teaching staff and students. Over 2,500 students are availing of the hostel facility!

Shaikshanik Sankul: Shaikshanik Sankul is located in Chakkargadh Road, Amreli. About 5,000 students study here.

Serving Humanity

Vatsalya Dham: Vatsalya Dham was set up on 25 May 2006 at Khemreg, Surat with a noble purpose to serve the aged and orphan children. It is also a centre for uncared and childless elders, who give love and warmth to these children.

About 950 children have been picked up from the streets and given shelter at Vatsalya Dham where they are treated with empathy, care, love and personal touch. Vatsalya Dham provides food, clothing, shelter, medical care and quality education up to graduation level.

The key focus of Vatsalya Dham is to make the children law obedient and to stay away from bad habits. Apart from academics study, the children are also provided with any related study which is useful for child’s professional perspective to make them self-dependent. They also accommodate aged elders to share their unique talent, skills and experiences to shape up children’s talent!

Samuh Lagna

“SAMUH LAGNA” was organised for 25 couples in the month of February – 2020 at Surat by Shri Sadbhavna Charitable Trust which was sponsored by Laxmi Diamond Pvt Ltd. and Gajera Trust.

Other Philanthropy Activities

Free medical service is offered to the people of Amreli at the hospital

Since the past 22 years, the Trust has contributed to many social causes, like organizing blood donation drives, osteopathy camps, medical assistance for employees and their family, tree plantation drives and supported a number of social activities.

  • Organized blood donation camps and collected about 1,500 bottles of blood.
  • About 200 plants undertaken for plantation with the help of company employees and local officials.
  • Undertaken Project Garv under Vatsalya Dham.
  • Free medical service offered to the people of Amreli by providing mobile medical vans with doctors and medicines.
  • Sunita’s Makerspace launched on 27 February 2016 to develop kids’ creative skill.
  • Setting up of a 300-bedded Modern Medical College in Amreli.
